Uttaranchal College of Polytechnic, Uttaranchal University, celebrated the Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti today on Friday, October 2, 2020 by organizing an online essay writing competition on the topic of “The Power of Non-Violence” for all the students of Diploma Engineering. The main purpose behind organizing such an event, as stated by HOD of the college Mr. Yashwant Bisht, was reinstating the values and principles endorsed by the Father of the Nation. The relevance of the principle of truth and non-violence has increased manifolds in the social, national, and international scenario of today, he further added.
The initiative of the college was widely supported by the students and many essays written both in Hindi and English were received through the online mode in the college. The students displayed a deep understanding of Gandhian philosophy and its implications in the present era. Few names of the students like Kanak Rawat ME-III Year, Varun Saini ME-III Year, Ajay Singh Kataria from ME-II Year, Tushar Bartwal ME-III Year, Aman Tyagi ME-II Year, Shubham Chamoli, Manisha Negi, Avnish Verma all ME- II Year, Neeraj Kumar, Aradhana, Kanika Bahuguna, Rahul Jaini, all EE II Year, Vikhyat Kesharwani, and Vipul from EE- III Year, in this regard are worth mentioning whose writings and thoughts were appreciated by all the teachers and members of the cultural club of the college.
The students through their various writings reiterated the facts that even as years roll by, the Gandhian principles remain evergreen and hold power to enlighten the entire world. His simple life, rich values, and enriching wisdom made him uproot the mighty British Empire. On pillars of truth and non-violence, he offers solutions, through his different principles, on issues of society, economy, politics, and human substance.
Prof. (Dr.) S. K. Shah in his brief online message to the students expressed his satisfaction over the fact that the students are not only performing well in their core engineering studies but they are equally aware of the values and principles deeply enshrined in the constitution and culture of the country for a very long period of time. He further announced the award of certificates as a gesture of recognizing the efforts of all the participants in this event and making it truly successful.
